Apple Maps now features cycling directions for all 50 U.S. states

If you’re effectively one with your bicycle, you’re going to like this.

Per Apple Maps enthusiast Justin Obeirne, Apple Maps cycling directions are now officially available in all 50 states.

In terms of holdouts, it was Hawaii that was the last to receive directions. According to Obeirne’s tracker, Hawaii was finally added in August.

As long as cycling directions are possible in a given area, Apple Maps users will be able to find their destination no matter what their location in the United States. Obeirne provided this information through an animated map that showcased the evolution of Apple Maps’ cycling directions. It also seems that Apple spent most of 2022 completing this task.

With Apple’s upcoming iOS 16 operating system, which is currently in its public beta stage, users will be able to set up multiple stops for biking directions. Additionally, multiple stop routing will also be a feature for driving and walking. The feature is especially helpful for those planning a more complicated trip, or it can be especially useful for those that run deliveries.

Users will be able to add up to 15 stops to their trips, and can automatically sync routes from Mac to iPhone.

iOS 16 will also bring transit updates to Maps, and users will be able to view the total cost of their journey, add transit cards to their Wallet, see low balances and replenish transit cards all within Apple Maps.

Under iOS 16, Apple Maps will alert users if part of their route entails walking. Users will also be able to see elevation changes in a route.

iOS 16 is likely to see a release relatively soon, with the expectations being this fall, as per usual with iOS releases.

If you’ve had a chance to try cycling directions via Apple Maps, please let us know about your experiences in the comments.
