Apple confirms that repaired devices left at Apple Store locations can’t be picked up due to Coronavirus pandemic

The Apple Store closures outside of China are currently preventing some customers from retrieving their repaired devices due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Per a Business Insider article, and following up on Apple’s notice that its retail store locations would remain partially open for two days following the shutdown announcement, Apple contacted customers with pending device repairs and asked them to come pick up their products.

After some customers missed the opportunity to pick up their devices, an Apple spokesperson confirmed that there was no way for customers to snag their repaired units if they’d missed the two-day grace period:

Some customers did not pick up their devices within the two-day pickup period, and those devices are still in Apple Stores, the spokesperson said. Unfortunately for those who missed the pickup window, there’s no way for them to get their devices until Apple Stores re-open, the spokesperson said.

This isn’t entirely surprising, especially since Apple Stores are closed for a reason and can’t be semi-opened. Apple could perhaps ship repaired devices to their owners, and this may be a policy Apple could implement in the future.

Apple has stated that its Apple Store locations were originally set to reopen on March 27th, but has recently updated its wording to state that stores are closed “until further notice.”

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
