Apple announces September 7 “Far Out” media event to launch iPhone 14, other products

The wait is over as Apple has officially announced that it will be launching its iPhone 14 handset, and presumably the Apple Watch Series 8, at its “Far Out” media event on Wednesday, September 7.

The event is thought to primarily focus on the upcoming iPhone, although Apple generally lists the iPhone as the headliner for its early fall events. The company also noted that the event will take place Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. Pacific time.

Apple says the event will include an in-person component. Unlike the last in-person offering, during WWDC 2022, this will take place in Steve Jobs Theater. The WWDC event hosted in-person invitees inside the ring at Apple Park.

It’s unknown as to what segments of the event will be in-person as opposed to virtual, and Apple has apparently been pre-recording segments of the keynote event in advance. Company executives that could make appearances include Tim Cook, Greg Joswiak, Craig Federighi and others.

It’s thought that the event will include the launch of the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Other rumored new products include the Apple Watch Series 8 and the Apple Watch Pro, which is expected to replace the Apple Watch Edition and be the biggest upgrade yet to the wearable. The Apple Watch Pro is rumored for feature a larger form factor and a durable titanium case to make the device more appropriate for extreme sports.

It’s also been rumored that Apple will use the event to announce the release dates for iOS 16, watchOS 9 and tvOS 16 on Sept. 7. Those are probably going to be available for download beginning the week of Sept. 12, while iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura are expected to ship in October.

Supply chain and other leaks have also pointed to new Macs with the M2 Pro and M2 Max, a new iPad 10, updated AirPods Pro and more.

Users can tune in to the iPhone 14 event via Apple’s website or use the TV app on your iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV. The event should also stream on Apple’s official YouTube channel.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.

Does anybody else remember a rumor back before the iPhone 13 about the ability to use low-orbit satellites with upcoming iPhones when there is no cell service? That would be ‘Far Out’…
