Apple announces iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max models at “Hi, Speed” virtual event

During Apple’s virtual “Hi, Speed” keynote on Tuesday, the company officially announced its long-awaited next-gen iPhones in the form of the iPhone 12 mini, the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Pro, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Each model will feature an OLED Super Retina XDR display as well as a “Ceramic Shield” screen, which uses ceramic particles to resist cracks and drapes. The units will support 5G with a Smart Data mode to switch between 4G and 5G as a means of preserving battery life, and Apple stated it has the most 5G bands of any smartphone.

Each of the four iPhone 12 models sports an A14 Bionic processor based on a 5 nanometer process that features 11.8 billion transistors, a 6-core CPU, a 4-core GPU, and a Neural Engine with 16-cores that can run 11 trillion operations per second. Apple says it can run console-quality games.

Apple won’t be shipping a charger and headphones from the iPhone 12 series, and has instead incorporated wireless charging capabilities based on a new MagSafe technology to enable special magnetic chargers as well as accessories like a wallet attachment and a leather sleeve.
