Apple adds “Confirm Subscription” dialog box for apps with in-app purchases

This is arguably a good thing.

Following a wake of subscription scam events in its App Store, Apple has reportedly added a subscription confirmation dialog box to the purchase process.

First publicized by developer David Barnard on Twitter, any In-App purchase that is a subscription will have an additional confirmation box after the purchase is approved.

The subscription will continue unless the user cancels it in iOS’ settings at least one day before the subscription period ends.

Apple has undergone a rash of recent subscription scams lately, some apps with what appear to be one-time in-app purchases hooking users into recurring weekly or monthly subscription costs. This has also been exacerbated via Touch ID, where users will sometimes press the home button to try to exit out of an app that offers a subscription, and instead approve the purchase.

This appears to be a server-side change, so it will work with all currently supported versions of iOS without any update needed.
