Noted analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Ross Young have recently doubled down on 2024 as the year in which Apple will release its first OLED MacBook.
The prediction comes as a bit of a surprise, although Kuo has qualified it by saying that “by the end of 2024 at the earliest” …
Apple first adopted OLED technology in its Apple Watch before bringing it to the iPhone, starting with the iPhone X. The company has not yet used this in either iPads or MacBooks, but is expected to do so sometime in the 2023-2026 timeframe. With MacBooks, 2024 has been suggested as the most likely date.
Last summer, display analyst Ross Young said it was “looking increasingly likely” that Apple would release a MacBook with an OLED display sometime in 2024.
Ross stated that OLED technology would likely appear on a 13-inch notebook model that would most likely to be a MacBook Air, but might instead be a MacBook Pro – or even a new plain MacBook. Just a month ago, Young indicated that this plan was still on track.
Per a tweet from Ming-Chi Kuo on Tuesday, the OLED implementation is not a done deal. Kuo stated that Apple will also launch OLED MacBook before the end of 2024 at the earliest. This is expected that driven by Apple, the growth rate of OLED notebook computers is expected to maintain rapid growth in the next few years.
OLEDs in notebooks have the advantage of being thin, light, and offering more diverse form factor design options, such as folding.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
