Once again, it’s the cases and case leaks that offer nifty insight as to potentially forthcoming Apple products.
Per a post by regular leaker Sonny Dickson, a pair of cases alleged to be for the fourth-generation iPhone SE have found their way online. The handset could be announced by early 2025.
While current iPhone SE cases for the 2022 third-generation model feature a back cutout for the single camera lens and flash, the cutout is repeated in these alleged new cases. Likewise, a cutout for the mute switch is a staple of the current cases, and the leaked image suggests that Apple isn’t going to change that either.
The current raised areas for the volume and power controls are also similar to where they were on the previous model, although it doesn’t indicate that older iPhone SE cases will fit the forthcoming new model.
It’s rumored that the next-gen iPhone SE will be based on the iPhone 14 chassis, making it appreciably larger than the previous iPhone SE models. It’s thought that the device will feature a 6.1-inch OLED screen, compared to the current model’s 5.45-inch display and LED backlit panel. The upcoming iPhone SSE is expected to offer a 48-megapixel camera, which would be similar to the iPhone 15’s camera. Other expected features include a 12MP selfie camera on the front and a Dynamic Island display.
Other major new features could include Apple switching out Touch ID in favor of Face ID, and replacing the Lightning connector with a USB-C connector. It’s also been rumored that the forthcoming iPhone SE will support Apple Intelligence, inferring that it will be based on the A18 chip and sport 8GB of RAM.
It’s unknown when the next-gen iPhone SE will arrive, although Apple’s track record tends to indicate that a spring 2025 launch could be in the offing.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
