On Monday, third-party parts and repair provider PDASmart announced that it had begun providing 100 gigabyte hard drive upgrade installations for Apple’s fifth generation iPod (also known as the “Video iPod”).
According to iLounge, the upgraded hard drive can be installed on the 60 and 80 gigabyte fifth generation iPods without any modifications while a new rear casing is required to allow a 30 gigabyte fifth generation hard drive to be installed.
The do-it-yourself upgrade kit for the 60 and 80 gigabyte iPods is priced at US$275 and includes the 100 gigabyte Toshiba hard drive while the upgrade for the 30 gigabyte iPod is only available via mail-in service and is priced at US$300.
If users aren’t confident about their ability with the do-it-yourself kit, they can also send their 60 or 80 gigabyte iPod in for an additional US$10 shipping charge and have the work performed by PDASmart.
The replacement hard drive are protected by a year’s warranty from Toshiba, PDASMart providing a 90-day warranty on their work.
