Even if Apple all but came over and egged your house yesterday by announcing that its upcoming Mac OS X 10.5 operating system would be delayed until October due to work being completed on the iPhone, there remains some good news on the horizon.
According to a DigiTimes article, Apple plans to launch a new generation of iPods capable of Wi-Fi access in the second half of this year. Taiwanese component maker Universal Scientific Industrial has confirmed that the company will produce the new iPod’s Wi-Fi equipment while Foxconn Technology Group will act as the assembler for the devices.
Universal Scientific Industrial has stated that it will begin shipping components later this month and sources have cited that Foxconn may ship completed units in the third quarter.
Wi-Fi-enabled music players are becoming the established standard today with havin led the push via its Zune player while Creative and SanDisk have followed along and Samsung and Sony en route with similar products, according to sources.
Even if Mac OS X 10.5 is a bit further away, a Wi-Fi iPod could be that much closer and it should be interesting to see what Apple can do with such a device.
