Microsoft announces Passkey support for user accounts

It’s taken a little while, but Microsoft has finally announced support for passkeys for its products. On Thursday, the company announced that passkey support is rolling out for all its consumer accounts across Apple platforms, Windows, and Google products.

Users of Word, Excel, and other popular products requiring Microsoft sign-in will be able to authenticate using simple biometric tools like Face ID or Touch ID.

Microsoft offered the following description of the setup process for this:

“On the device where you want to create the passkey, follow this link, and choose the face, fingerprint, PIN, or security key option. Then follow the instructions on your device.”

Passkeys can be set up for Microsoft accounts, allowing users to log in to their apps using biometric authentication, which is far more secure than a conventional username and password.

If you’ve had a chance to try Passkey support on your Microsoft account, please let us know about your experience in the comments.
