If you’re hoping to save some money on an Apple Watch Series 9, you’re going to like this.
Apple on Wednesday began selling certified refurbished Apple Watch Series 9 models in the U.S. for the first time since the device was released in September. The refurbished units are discounted by approximately 15 percent compared to their brand-new retail counterparts, with pricing starting at $339, down from $399. A variety of configurations are available as of writing.
As with all of its refurbished products, Apple puts the Apple Watch Series 9 units through a thorough cleaning and inspection process as well as performs full functionality testing.
Like the current Series 9 units being sold at retail vendors, it’s expected that the refurbished units will have the Blood Oxygen app deactivated given the ongoing legal battle with medical technology company Masimo. Last year, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) banned Apple from importing and selling Apple Watch models with blood oxygen sensing after it ruled that the feature infringed on Masimo’s patents. Apple is appealing the decision and could re-enable the Blood Oxygen app with a watchOS update if it is overturned.
Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
