Apple releases first-day firmware updates for AirPods Pro 2, Apple Watch Ultra devices

If you snagged either the AirPods Pro 2 or Apple Watch Ultra, you’re going to want to update the firmware for either of the devices.

Apple on Friday released first-day updates for both products. Early adopters need to update their AirPods Pro or Apple Watch Ultra firmware to the software to avoid experiencing bugs or issues.

watchOS 9.0.1 is available now and Apple released it specifically for the Apple Watch Ultra only. In the release notes, Apple said the update includes improvements and bug fixes for the Apple Watch Ultra. Specifically, the update mentioned audio distortion during phones using the speakers. The updated version of watchOS 9 should fix that issue.

As expected, watchOS 9.0.1 should update automatically after setting up your Apple Watch Ultra. If it doesn’t, you can update your Apple Watch Ultra to watchOS 9.0.1 by opening the Watch app on your iPhone then going to General > Software Update. Make sure to place the Apple Watch Ultra on its charger to begin the update.

Where the AirPods 2 first-day firmware update is concerned, Apple doesn’t normally offer release notes for these accessories. The firmware release number is “5A377.”

Unlike other Apple products, though, there’s no manual method to update the AirPods’ firmware. It should automatically fire up when AirPods is connected to an iOS device and stored in its charging case with enough power. It’s thought that the update was released to address issues and bugs that could otherwise affect the experience of early adopters with their new AirPods Pro 2.

If you’d like to check your AirPods 2 version manually, go to the iPhone the units are connected to, go to Settings > General > About > and select the AirPods you wish to view.

If you’ve had a chance to try the new firmware for either device, please let us know about your experience in the comments.
