Rumor: Apple to incorporate always-on displays similar to those found in the Apple Watch into its 2021 model iPhones

In addition to a rumor highlighting potential new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros to be released this fall, a new report from Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter has hinted that the 2021 model iPhone may feature an always-on display similar to the Apple Watch. While Android phones have had this feature for some time, it would mark a first for the iPhone.

The next-gen iPhones are also rumored to feature improved battery life, a smaller notch on the screen, better video recording, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a faster A15 chip.

This follows on to a rumor issued by leaker Max Weinbach, which stated earlier this year that Apple may use the same kind of low temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) panels that its Watches have on future iPhones.

Such a rumor also dovetails in with predictions that “at least one” of the four new iPhones will include an LTPO display. The technology dynamically adjusts Watches’ screen refresh rates to conserve battery life. Finally, noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also said earlier this year that the Pro iPhones coming this year would have LTPO displays and 120Hz refresh rates.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
