Developer’s Xcode crash log hints at upcoming Apple Silicon-based iMac

The logs almost never lie.

And they’re incredibly helpful at helping you find a bug so you can stop slamming your head against the keyboard.

With Apple expected to release a redesigned iMac powered by an Apple Silicon processor later this year. developer Dennis Oberhoff has discovered an unreleased ARM-based iMac in an Xcode crash log for his Mac app DaftCloud.

Oberhoff shared the Xcode crash log to Twitter, which examined the image, the overall consensus citing that this was legitimate.

DaftCloud functions as a third-party macOS desktop app for music sharing website SoundCloud, and it’s speculated that Oberhoff may have been using an Apple Silicon iMac prototype. Either way, the log indicates that the iMac is running macOS Big Sur 11.2.1, which was released in early February.

It’s also been rumored that the redesigned iMac, complete with an Apple Silicon chip, will be released this year, and feature a slimmer bezel, Apple’s Pro Display XDR, no metal chin below the display, and a flat back.

This also comes along at a time when Apple announced earlier this month that the iMac Pro is being discontinued, although 512GB and 1TB SSD upgrade options have become unavailable for the 21.5-inch iMac.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
