Apple releases security update for iOS 12, macOS Mojave, High Sierra, and Sierra operating systems

Apple on Thursday released a significant security update for iOS 12 as well as macOS Mojave, Sierra, and High Sierra.

The release notes describe the addressed security issue as follows:

Impact: A remote attacker may be able to cause unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution

Description: An out-of-bounds read was addressed with improved input validation.

CVE-2019-8641: Samuel Groß and Natalie Silvanovich of Google Project Zero

The update is for iOS 12 devices that cannot upgrade to iOS 13, macOS Mojave 10.14.6, macOS High Sierra 10.13.6, and macOS Sierra 10.12.6.

To install the update for iOS, back up your device first, then open the Settings app, tap on General, then tap on Software Update to locate, download, and install the update.

If you want to install the update on your Mac, click the Apple logo, then select App Store and Updates from there under macOS Sierra and High Sierra. Under macOS Mojave, open the System Preferences, click on Software Update, and check for the update. The update is a roughly 1.25 gigabyte download, so give the download and installation some time.

If you’ve had a chance to try the update and have any feedback, please let us know about your experience in the comments.
