First macOS Mojave public beta released, available for download

If you’re feeling somewhat brave, or at least have a partition set aside for it, Apple released the first macOS Mojave public beta on Tuesday. Mojave is Apple’s latest version of macOS and is expected to ship this fall.

The upcoming operating system debuted at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference earlier this month. Developers have had a chance to experiment with two beta version by this point in time.

The macOS Mojave operating system adds new features such as a new Dark Mode interface for the Finder and apps, Stacks for organizing files on the desktop, Quick Actions for working with files in the Finder, markup in Quick Look, improved screenshots, Camera Continuity so photos you snap with your iPhone appear in documents on your Mac in real time, group FaceTime calls, and more.

Apple will also begin porting iOS apps to macOS Mojave via new developer tools which allow them to compile their iOS apps as native Mac apps with little recoding. The first four apps to be seen on the macOS side will be Apple’s own Home, News, Stocks, and Voice Memos apps.

macOS Mojave will officially ship this fall as a free upgrade for compatible Macs. You can sign up for the public beta at Apple’s website.
