Rumor: Apple may release lower-priced HomePod in second half of 2018

The rumor mill has it that Apple could not only release a cheaper MacBook Air and a cheaper iPad this year, but could also release a more affordable HomePod as well.

A recent report suggests that the cheaper HomePod could launch in the United States in the second half of 2018 for approximately $150 to $200, a substantially lower price than the current $349 it’s being offered for now.

The HomePod has received both high praise as well as significant criticism and is priced against lower-priced offerings from companies like Google and Amazon.

It’s not clear whether this lower-priced option would be a cut-price version of the current model offering lesser sound quality, or whether it’ll be a brand new device along the lines of the Echo Dot or Google Home Mini.

As of now, it’s unknown when we could see signs of this and the current thought is there might be no mention of it until the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, or even later at the traditional September iPhone launch.

Stay tuned for additional details as they become available.
