The coolest of felines at iFixit have torn down the Apple Pencil and found some amazing stuff inside.
The crew, which had to resort to opening the device with a small circular saw and breaking a flex cable in the process, found that the plastic outer casing reveals a metal inner one. The tip contains two separate emitters, used to determine both the angle and orientation of the Pencil in order to adjust the width of the pen stroke.
iFixit reported that the logic board is the smallest one it’s ever seen, and weighs just one gram. Even so, the board as still been folded in half to fit inside the casing.
An even smaller sensor fits inside the nib of the Apple Pencil, with movement between two parts acting as an apparent pressure sensor.
Not surprisingly, iFixit gave the Apple a 1 out of 10 score for repairability and given that even they couldn’t get in without destroying the device, means this won’t be easy to fix.
As always, let us know what you think over in the comments.
