It’s the rumor mill that keeps things interesting.

With Apple’s September 9th media event coming up, sources have stated that a fourth-gen Apple TV will be available for under US4200 and will become available this October. Apple executives are apparently still finalizing the price of the revamped living room device, but the latest options call for a starting price point of either US$149 or US$199, both higher than the third-generation Apple TV…

The next-gen device will arrive at a premium price compared to the US$60 to US$99 price range found on the current model Apple TV, is anticipated to be similar to the current model in appearance, but will be thicker and slightly wider, sources say.

The new device will incorporate a number of new features including Siri support, a new remote control, an App Store with a Software Development Kit for developers, and a refreshed user interface. As soon as next year, Apple plans to release a cable-replacing streaming TV service that bundles multiple television channels for a price as low as US$40 per month, but the new Apple TV will initially still require logins to cable networks to unlock content.

Sources have stated that the streaming service is currently planned to also become available for the third-generation Apple TV. However, the current model will not receive support for the upcoming App Store, nor will it be directly controllable by Siri.

Apple is also expected to unveil the next-gen iPhone at the upcoming event on September 9th.
