In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I’ve updated the Tracker to include all of the sweet lovin’ corrections and tips sent in since this past weekend (so I have a life, sue me) by all of you beautiful people. Anyway, the big news is that the Apple Store has pushed back build-to-order orders and some high-end 500MHz machines from February 24th to March 3rd. Of course, if you’ve gotten the “Apple Store Email of Death” (ASED), you already know and are probably upset.
We appreciate your recent order for our new, exciting custom-configured PowerBook G4. We realize you are very anxious to receive your new PowerBook G4, and we are very eager to ship it to you! This email is to inform you we have incurred a delay and that we now expect your custom-configured PowerBook G4 to ship by March 3rd.
This delay is the result of the high demand for the product. We apologize for the delay, and we appreciate your patience in waiting for your PowerBook to arrive. We will ship all custom-configured orders in the sequence they were received, and you will receive an email notification once your order has been shipped.
Of course, if the Apple Store is having trouble shipping them, the big catalog resellers are also pushing back their shipping dates. Some catalog resellers that we’re polling are shipping very very small quantities this week, with backorder-filling initial shipments ranging from February 20th to the first week of March with an emphasis on March. If this trend continues, it’s starting to look like many of those who ordered through a catalog reseller won’t be getting their goods until early March. When the dam finally breaks, we’ll let you know.
Many readers are having success tracking one down in the retail channel though, like our big cheese (“Exclusive: Titanium G4 Arrives at Go2Mac World HQ!“). Give that a shot if you haven’t already. Anyway, check out the Tracker and keep those tips and corrections coming. (drwill)
