The US$400 rebate from CompuServe that Steve Jobs mentioned in his speech two days ago will be available in November, according to an article in Insanely Great Mac (“CompuServe offers $400 rebate on new iMacs“). You must sign up for CompuServe Internet access when you buy your iMac, and you will receive the rebate after purchase. The three year contract requires a monthly fee of US$9.95 and offers 20 hours of access per month.
Similar rebate programs have been in effect for many Windows-based PCs. Most notably, MicroCenter offered rebates that were effective at the time of purchase, eliminating the need to actually have any cash to purchase the computer.
