You may (or may not) be aware of recent events with the music software/hardware company Opcode. PowerPage sources have used Opcode’s premier MIDI/Audio Sequencer Vision (now Vision DSP and Studio Vision Pro) since its earliest version over ten years ago. Opcode was bought last year by Gibson guitars, who have in the last month completely shutdown Opcode’s operations without any announcement of their intentions.
Since Opcode was right in the middle of a new version release of VisionDSP and SVP (4.5), and the product employs PACE copy-protection, this has left many loyal users twisting in the wind. It is impossible to get response codes for the copy protection from Opcode, and they have charged some people’s credit cards for orders that never shipped.
Gibson has a sordid history of buying small innovative companies and gutting them – Steinberger and Tobias guitars and Oberheim electronics come to mind. Their current display of contempt for Opcode customers is appalling…
