iBook Keyboard Woes

Possibly the most problematic part of the iBook is the keyboard. The key caps can break off after a bit of use, and the keyboard gets warped. An Archive Apple technician tells us why:

Take a look at who makes the keyboard. Remember the folks who did the R & D and plastics work on the 5300 PBs that were such a disaster. It is a little known fact that Acer was contracted by Apple to do major work on the PB 5300 and guess who is still producing components for Apple’s portable division?

Some PowerPage readers with warped keyboards found a do-it-yourself fix to that problem. A couple people looked closely at their machines and figured out that there was a cable under the keyboard that caused a bulge where the cable was, and that moving the cable into its proper location in the cable guide fixed the bulge.
