According to an article in Asia BizTech (“Transmeta to Release New Crusoe Chip on June 26“) Transmeta Corporation is preparing to launch two new low-power CPUs at this month’s PC Expo at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York on 26-28 June, 2001.
The new models are the TM5500 with 256KB of secondary cache and the TM5800 with 512KB of secondary cache. For a central processing unit core, a 128-bit very long instruction word (VLIW) calculator, as used in the traditional TM5400/5600, will be applied. However, the new models will use a 0.13-micron manufacturing process technology instead of using 0.18-micron technology, and have an updated 4.2.0 version of code morphing software (CMS), a software for converting x86 commands into internal VLIW commands, from the traditional version 4.1.7, to improve the performance and reduce power consumption.
