MOTU ships Digital Performer 3.0 while Emagic announces that both Logic Audio 5.0 and a number of hardware drivers are coming to OS X.
With the colossal NAMM show in Nashville about to commence, two of the Mac’s big three integrated MIDI/audio workstations received big updates at last week’s Macworld: MOTU shipped Digital Performer 3.0 while Emagic announced that both Logic Audio 5.0 and a number of hardware drivers were coming to OS X.
As Emagic told Go2Mac earlier, the developer is planning to bring drivers for its hardware as well as its flagship Logic Audio to OS X. That announcement has now become official, and a projected release date set. Now in beta form, final OS X versions of Logic Audio 5.0, and drivers for the Unitor8 MkII, AMT8, and MT4 MIDI interfaces as well as the EMI 2|6 audio interface will be available in September. Logic Audio will bring a leading solution for music and audio production to Apple’s new OS with integrated multitrack digital audio recording and editing, digital signal processing, MIDI notation and sequencing. The EMI 2|6 USB audio interface features 2 analog inputs, 6 analog outputs, and one S/PDIF digital input and output, with enough outputs for 5.1 surround sound, in a portable box.

Meanwhile, in MacOS 9, MOTU is currently shipping its much-anticipated 3.0 upgrade to its flagship MIDI and audio product, Digital Performer. I’ve begun using the upgrade and will post a full review later this summer. DP3’s interface has been completely overhauled with an Aqua-inspired interface which has all sorts of new conveniences that make using DP more elegant.
DP3 also features G4 multi-processor support, an improved plug-in interface, audio CD import previewing, import and export of entire Pro Tools projects, post production features for film production, extensive surround support and panning, notation enhancements, and a host of new editing and processing features as well as some 15 new plug-ins. The added features are too extensive to list; the most revolutionary are the new, improved interface and the surround capabilities.
