I got a chance to play with a pre-released version of Pixadex a week ago, and overall I am thoroughly impressed with the software. The interface is sleek, quick and does not drag. I have to admit that I am a huge GUI person. I love my desktop to be beautiful. This means I have to have a nice desktop pattern right down to snazzy icons. One of my favorite features of Pixadex is the QuickDrop window. It allows you to select an icon from within Pixadex and simply drop a file or folder to apply the icon to it.
It is nice to see a piece of software that elimates so many tedious tasks so quickly. Instead of reverting to poorly written AppleScripts that sometimes accomplish the task, Pixadex will do it with ease. Some of Pixadex’s most powerful features include:
- Import (or drag & drop) icons in a range of formats.
- Organize icons into custom “Collections” that fit your needs.
- Powerful search features to sort by icon name, author, copyright info, keywork or comments.
- Drag and drop any con from Pixadex to the Finder instantly.
- Copy and paste (or drag & drop) any icon into Adobe Photoshop for editing.
- Apply custom icons to files & folders effortlessly through QuickDrop.
- Fully integrated with CandyBar for easy setting of system level icons .
- Export single icons as well as entire collections.
- Artists can “lock down” iContainer’s information when exporting .
- Easily spot when icons are missing OS X resources .
- Dynamically scale icon’s sizes .
Pixadex 1.0 is available today for US $19 or only $14 for IconDropoper users at The Iconfactory’s web site.
