After a long public beta cycle, Parallels has released version 2.5.3186 of its Desktop for Mac virtualization program. The software, available for US$80.00, allows Intel-based Macs to run Microsoft’s Windows operating systems without having to reboot into a different hard drive partition.
The new version includes improvements in Parallels’ Coherence cystem (which allows Windows applications to be added to Mac OS X’s Dock) as well as a new feature called Transporter, which helps users migrate applications, files and systems settings to a Parallels-based virtual machine without having to reinstall Windows. Structured around miration and switching, Transporter can also pull in user preferences from competitor VMWare‘s Workstation program as well as Microsoft‘s older Virtual PC emulation program.
Other improvements in the 2.5.3186 update include the following:
-Full plug and play support for USB 2.0 devices.
-Improved compatibility with Apple’s Boot Camp partitions.
-Full drag and drop support between Mac OS X and Parallels’ virtual operating systems.
-Windows Vista compatibility.
-Full-feature CD and DVD drive support.
-Auto-adjusting screen resolution: Windows auto-adjusts its screen resolution to the actual main window size.
-Improved graphic performance – up to 50% faster!
-Mac OS X 10.5 “Leopard” ready.

Parallels Desktop for Mac 2.5.3186 is a 57.4 megabyte download (courtesy of MacUpdate) and requires an Intel-based Mac and Mac OS X 10.4 or later to run.
